CHRIS STILLWELL

Bass

As a musician, Chris started out in the infancy of the jazz/funk idiom in San Diego with Motherlode in the early 90's along with musicians Robert Walter, Cheme, Gastelum, Steve Haney, Brian Jordan, Zak Najor. The introduction of DJ Greyboy set Chris on the path of a crash course in the 60's -70's Blue Note - Prestige catalogue of Soul Jazz stylings. Always a big fan of James Brown & The Meters, this was a whole new world of learning. For DJ Greyboy's vast LP collection, I will always be in debt to his sharing & tutoring. This set the wheels for the formation of The Greyboy Allstars in December of 1993. Weekly gigs at the Green Circle bar in San Diego honed our chops and writing for the beginnings of 1994 -1995, as well as 2 European jaunts. The band managed to carve out a loyal fan base along with yearly album releases, and a film score (Zero Effect) before disbanding in May of 1998. Chris did stints as bassist for the fledgling Karl Denson's Tiny Universe from 1999 to 2000 & Robert Walter's 20th Congress from 2001 to 2003. From there, Chris delved into TV & Film work courtesy of Michael Andrews (a.k.a. Elgin Park).

Film & TV credits include Out Cold (Disney), Nothing (Indie), Stuck On You, Wonderfalls (WB), Starsky And Hutch, 40 Year Old Virgin. Also, Chris provided bass duties for Inara George in April 2004 for her indie release "All Rise" along with Michael Andrews, Greg Kurstin (Beck), Pete McNeal (Cake, Breakestra), and Jackson Browne guesting on backing vocals, as well as extensive local & national touring in 2005. Throughout all this time from 1999 -2005, Chris has done small one-off shows with The Greyboy Allstars, and has established himself as a professional collector & seller/dealer of rare out-of-print vinyl records with a personal penchant for 50's -70's film soundtrack LP's.

Present day brings back the full-fledged union of The Greyboy Allstars with a full length album forthcoming. Chris has also in the last year formed, (along with 20th Congress mates saxman Cheme Gastelum & percussionist Chuck Prada), two separate Jazz/Funk/Soul supergroups (Fully Loaded & Motherload) featuring guitarist Will Bernard (TJ Kirk, Motherbug, Frequinox, Stanton Moore), keyboardist Eric Levy (Garage Mahal), drummer Adam Deitch(Average White Band, John Scofield), vocalists & keyboardist Anthony Ferrell (Greyhounds), guitarist Brian Jordan (KDTU, Banyan), and drummer John Staten (KDTU).
